I (a poem)

"When I allow myself to wonder off, imagine and chase all the different colors through my dreams, I, see colors not skins.

When the world demanded that I grow up and become stronger, it was my mind, body and soul not my orientation who responded.

I have promised myself that this person, I, shall roam the world ignoring anyone who helps promote hate and ignoring race barriers that have been set and keep most of us from being friends.

Loving, caring, always laughing.

Waiting for what's to be written, you know, doing that crazy thing called "living."

And no matter how many threats and negative comments have been said

This person, I, will do it all, artistically, peacefully and unafraid."

I came up with this poem about a day ago and it is called "I." Some of my friends were discussing if there's an actual gene that can affect eye color. Somehow, it sparked a really odd race discussion. I never really understood how the things that make us all different and unique can be such a controversy. When I say that a lot of people tell me that it is because I am a foreigner but I've met a lot of people who were born in America who feel the same way I feel so I don't think that has anything to do with it. I believe that my generation, the younger generations and even some before me all have the tools to not have issues with people based on things that people themselves can't control, like race, orientation, gender, even religion at times. All we have to do is put some effort and when we do "fail" do better next time.

I love how the poem came out for some reason though. Hope anyone who reads it likes it too :) I tend to write when something is troubling me or stays in my mind. So don't be surprised if you read some random things coming from me every now and then.

Happy holidays everyone!!!!!
